Šta su pa sad frazalni glagoli?

Frazalni glagoli – da pojednostavimo!

Let’s make it simple!

Phrasal verb = a combination of words   –    main verb (V) together with a particle (p) or an adverb and preposition (sometimes both). The most famous phrasal verb is SHUT UP.

What’s the problem with these structures?

Zašto su frazalni glagoli smor?

Kada se koriste zajedno, obično imaju drugačije značenje nego originalna fraza. Ne možete reći da govorite engleski tečno ukoliko ne koristite frazalne glagole, a ima ih jako mnogo i veoma su bitni!

Za one koje zanima više o ovome u teorijskom smislu, vidi:

Već smo navikli da razmišljamo u smislu sistema ili shema (patterns).

Phrasal verbs have 3 basic patterns:  (N-Noun, V-Verb, O-Object, p-particle, PP-personal pronoun).

  1. The N + V + O + p pattern:
N (Subject) Verb Object Particle
turned  the computer   on

      2. The N + V + p + O pattern:

N (Subject) Verb Particle Object
He  hung up the phone

        3.  The pattern when the O is a personal pronoun – N + V + PP + p:

N (Subject) Verb PP p
I picked the books up

Let’s see some examples of verbs and particles used as phrasal verbs.

(NB: many phrasal verbs have several meanings!)

Turn                →                up (sound)

Turn                →                down (sound)

Take                 →               off (clothes, plane)

Put                   →                on (clothes)

Grow                →               into (adapt)

You really need to know these phrasal verbs:

֎ Please take off your shoes. (skinuti)

֎ For heaven’s sake, put on your jacket, it’s minus 20 degrees out there. (obući)

֎ Turn on the TV, I have to watch Money Heist! (uključiti)

֎ I’ll turn off the computer so you can get some work done. (isključiti)

֎ Should I turn up the sound or is it loud enough for you? (pojačati)

֎ Please pick up the phone when I call you! (odgovoriti na telefonski poziv)

֎ I told him to look it up on Google, but he refuses to. (pretražiti)

*Frazalni glagoli izražavaju bitne životne radnje kao što su skini, obuci, isključi, pojačaj, ćuti, etc.! Ima li duže i dublje komunikacije bez ovih izraza?
